Plugin symptom
Rank Math
Rank Math sitemap indexing issues in WordPress
This is not a Rank Math tutorial. It is for WordPress sites where Rank Math is part of a broken sitemap, canonical, noindex, or GSC coverage path.
When this usually happens
Common triggers
- after changing sitemap settings
- after enabling or disabling post types
- after WooCommerce catalog changes
- after migration or staging work
- after cache/CDN changes
- after submitting an old sitemap in GSC
Common causes
What could be misconfigured
- wrong post types enabled in sitemap
- categories/tags indexed unintentionally
- noindexed URLs still appearing in sitemap
- canonical and sitemap disagree
- generated sitemap cached incorrectly
- old sitemap paths still submitted in GSC
- WooCommerce product/category settings mismatched
Not always the plugin
When Rank Math is probably not the root cause
Rank Math may not be the root cause if the rendered HTML has correct index/canonical signals but GSC is lagging, internal links are weak, or the affected URLs are low-value duplicates.
